Getting ready for the holidays? Excited about all the joys the season brings? Mmmm, all the baking and let’s not forget the big turkey dinner. Although we are just heading into the Christmas celebration, the bikini countdown begins. What you do to your body over the holidays will affect how you look and feel later. In a few months from now, you will try on your bikini and find out that it shrunk somehow. Then what? Go on crash diets and fill your head full of negative self talk? The following are some healthy tips to consider as you head into the holidays to keep your self confidence intact and ease your worries about how you will fit into your bikini again.
Being mindful does not mean that you have to exclude yourself from anything. Making healthy decisions and eating sensibly will allow you to participate in the festivities completely.
♥Limit the amount of sweets you eat as they are high in useless calories. This includes pies, puddings, chocolates, rum butter and Christmas cake. Fruit salad in light jello will provide a more natural cure for your sweet tooth. Remember, the workout facilities generally close over the holidays which limits your availability to burn these calories off.
♥Snack on nuts and dried fruits instead of chips with dip, cheesies, and salted peanuts. Make your calories beneficial ones. Junk food contains loads of useless calories and is high in fat and salt content.
♥Turkey is a very healthy meat that is rich with hormone boosting elements. However, eating the turkey skin will double your calorie intake for the same serving.
♥Potatoes can vary in calories depending on their preparation. It is better to consume boiled, baked or even mashed as opposed to fried or roasted. Limit the butter.
♥Gravy tends to be high in calories as most are made with a flour or milk base with added butter. Clear gravy, however, is made from broth or bullion and is much healthier than its thicker counterpart.
♥Vegetables are naturally low in calories. Steamed and raw preparations provide the most nutrients. Avoid creamed vegetables and limit the butter.
♥Alcohol, depending on your selection, can be extremely high in calories. Although red wine contains antioxidants, over consumption adds calories. Sweet wines, of course, contain more calories then dry. Cocktails, beer, sparkling champagne and liqueurs are very high in caloric content whereas 80 proof hard liquor contains the least of all alcohol beverages. If you plan on consuming alcohol, please be responsible. Don’t drink and drive.
Finally, try to add some activity over the holidays, such as walking, instead of sitting in front of the TV and participating solely in sedentary activities. As a result, you will have more control over your body’s reaction to the holidays. Your bikini body will be thankful you made watchful decisions and your self confidence will remain intact. Many wishes to you and your loved ones for a safe and happy holiday season. May your hearts be touched and your lives truly blessed.
